About Dispatch
Dispatch is a weekly letter about Port Calder. It comes out every Friday morning, before the first bus, and it is about the city as the people in it use it: the counters, the parking garages, the bakeries, the back rooms and the nights.
We started in 2021 with a table at Rosa's on Calder Street, a borrowed laptop and forty subscribers, most of them related to us. There are three of us now and a few thousand of you.
Who writes it
Ruth Calloway edits Dispatch and writes about food. Sam Reyes covers buildings and the people who decide what happens to them. Priya Nair writes about the city after dark. We all write about people, because it is hard not to.
How it is paid for
Dispatch has no advertising and no owner. It is paid for by its readers. Most of what we publish is free to read. Members pay $5 a month for the members-only letters, every part of each series, the Sunday long read and the full archive. That money pays three people to spend their weeks in Port Calder and their Thursday nights writing it down.
If you would like to support us, become a member. If you cannot, subscribe for free and tell one person about us. Both help.
Write to us
We read every reply to the letter. Tell us what we got wrong, what we missed and which counter we should sit at next.
